EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
Mayor's Office of Workforce Development (MOWD)
administers a job training program funded through the Job
Training Partnership Act (JTPA) of 1982. MOWD provides job
training to dislocated (laid-off) adults and economically
disadvantaged adults and youths (e.g. welfare recipients,
food stamp recipients, persons living below the poverty
line, homeless individuals). Job training programs are offered
through delegate agencies across the city. These delegate
agencies contract with MOWD to provide vocational classroom
training, on-the-job training, basic readjustment services
and basic skills training.

Career Info Net (ACINet) traces its beginnings to
June of 1996. At that time, the U.S. Department of Labor
began development of a web-based application in support
of America's Labor Market Information System (ALMIS).
This application, called ACINet, accesses the ALMIS Database
and displays a variety of occupational, demographic, and
labor market information at the local, state, and national
levels. It also includes an extensive collection of links
to other Internet resources through its Career Resource
Library.
